From interviews with prospective customers, we learnt you can either heat the blade, which is economically unviable in colder climates. Or you can use hydrophobic coatings that need to be reapplied often, and contain toxic chemicals (PFAS). We are 10x more energy efficient than heating, and contain no toxic chemicals.
These solutions are created by Vestas, Siemens Gamesa and 3M. But customers say they are ineffective, and with no other startups doing ultrasonic de-icing, it provides an opportunity.
